FERNDALE SERVICE CLUB GOLF LEAGUE RULES

2014 (REVISED 2013)

SCORING:

18 hole stroke play using ACTUAL SCORE.

DO NOT WRITE HANDICAP SCORES ON CARDS.

HANDICAPS:

1.        Handicaps are only used to determine points per hole, per nine and per eighteen.

2.       League Handicaps will be based on last year’s handicaps.  The Secretary will hold cards for matches involving new members to compute handicaps.  Their handicaps will be based on the first two scores and used for awarding point for the first two weeks.  All players HANDICAPS will change as the season progresses.

3.       Strokes will be awarded based on the difference between the two handicaps with the exception that strokes will be given only on the Par 4 and Par 5 holes with no more than 2 strokes per hole.  No strokes will be lost.

4.       HANDICAP IS BASED ON ACTUAL SCORE MINUS 72 x 90%.  League secretary will be doing the average handicaps weekly and players will receive a list of all player’s handicaps as the season progresses.  Any questions on your handicap should be addressed with the Secretary and adjusted if needed.

POINTS:

1.       Hole won = 2 points, Tied =1 point,  Lost= 0 points.  For each nine and for each eighteen, player with the low net score (actual score less handicap earns 4 point bonus, total 12 points.  If tied, 2 points each.

2.       Matches are played for points NOT LOWEST SCORE.  Maximum point per match is 48.

3.       Points are accumulated for all weeks (EXCEPT FOR FINAL OUTING) TO DETERMINE 1^ST, 2^ND, AND 3^RD place League Champs.  The Secretary will check all cards to ensure points correct.  Points and handicap averages will be published after the second week of play.

MATCH SCHEDULING:

1.       The league will publish a list of match pairings based on last year’s handicap.  New players will be given a handicap based on their best estimate of average score.

2.       The League Starter (Secretary) will assign foursomes and starting order.  To ease the starter’s burden, players should be at the course ½ hour prior to the league starting time.

3.       If you are unable to play on a league day, you must give at least one week notice to League Starter and opponent if possible.  SEE RULE 5

4.       If your scheduled opponent does not show, the league starter will match you with one of the following: (A) another player in the same circumstance (B) if A isn’t available, a player by challenge that you normally wouldn’t play in schedule for points.

5.       If you miss a week, when you return, you must challenge the player you were scheduled to play.  If he is not there, you must challenge another player in your flight.  (see Secretary to do this prior to golf starting.)  NO MORE THAN TWO MAKE-UPS WILL BE ALLOWED PER SEASON.  Challenges must be issued prior to start of play.  You may only challenge one player per 18 holes.

6.       On Challenge score cards, both players’ scores are to be recorded, but only the challenger’s points (unless both players are doing a make-up).  The word CHALLENGE must be printed on the score card.  League Secretary will assist in this so as to make sure handicaps are correct.

7.       ALL PLAYERS SHOULD CHECK SCORE CARD AND SIGN BEFORE TURNING IN TO SECRETARY.  ANY ERRORS WILL BE CORRECTED BY LEAGUE SECRETARY. (See local rule #4).

LOCAL RULES:

1.       You are allowed to roll your ball over with your club no more than the width of one club head.  NO PICKING BALL UP AND PLACING ON TUFT OF GRASS.  REVISION - July 10, 2014 - No rolling of the ball in the fairway or rough for Group A players.  Group B players may still roll the ball in the fairway or rough.

2.       Any shot going out of bounds (into a water hazard or resulting in a lost ball0 is to be considered as if it entered a lateral hazard.  DROP a provisional ball on the same line as the previous shot.  You may go back as far as you wish but must stay on the same line, or you may play the ball from the opposite side of the hazard from where they entered the hazard but no closer to the hole.  PENALTY-ONE STROKE.

3.       USGA RULES will apply in all other situations except where local rules supersede them.  Any arbitration on problems will be handled by the League President and Secretary, usually at the end of 18 holes.

4.       Score cards must be neatly printed (when possible, names, handicaps, and stroke holes will be preprinted).  Scores for each nine, total scores and points for each nine and total points MUST be figured and entered on scorecard legibly.  The completion an accuracy of all information on the scorecard is the responsibility of the players and not the league secretary.  Both players must either sign or initial the card before turning it in (see match play #7 and local rule #3).

5.       REVISED 2013 Number of strokes allowed from max of ten to the following: A PLAYER MAY ONLY TAKE THE FOLLOWING PAR THREES - STROKES ALLOWED, SIX  PAR FOURS - EIGHT AND PAR FIVES - TEN. (Double par is the maximum on all holes)

ADDENDUM (2005) REVISED 2013

1.        If you are SIXTY EIGHT (68) years of age or older, by the end of the current golf league year and have a handicap of 30 or higher, you hit from the forward tees on all par fives.

2.       If you are SEVENTY FIVE (75) years of age or older by the end of the current golf league year and have a handicap of 30 or higher, you hit from the forward tee on all holes.

3.       ONLY THOSE COVERED IN ADDENDUM RULE 2 ALLOWED TO HIT FROM ADDVANCE TEE. ALL OTHERS  WILL PLAY FROM  REG TEE

These rules were done to speed up play.  Please play ready golf.

FEES:

1.        Each player will be responsible for paying golf course fees on the day of the outing.  Some courses require both players in a match to register together.

2.       For greenies and skins, it will be $5 per each and league has rule “Once in always in”.  If you drop out, you are out.

3.       50/50 is paid for in league dues and two are picked each week of play.  Don’t have to be there to win.  $25 per draw.

4.       New in 2012, low score (actual – handicap) for each flight, $25 weekly.  Money comes out of league dues.

5.       The league entry fee is $160.00 to be paid prior to the start of league play.  This is an entry fee, and as such is NON –REFUNDABLE.  The exception is for a medical condition that forces you to drop out of the league.  The league Officers will determine the amount of any refund.

6.       Final outing follows one week after regular league play and is a four man scramble/best ball.  The League President and Secretary will set up foursomes and tee schedule prior to that day.  We ask that all players be at the course on final day ½ hour in advance of tee time so we can make sure we have everyone in a group.  Greenie (closest to pin), cost of golf and cart with hot dog and pop at turn covered by league dues ($160).  All foursomes will be in skins and each group must pay for skins.  Banquet after golf and prizes come from league dues.
